BUYING THROUGH TAJAN

Every year, TAJAN presents around 18,000 lots in over 60 auctions. 

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SALES

For every specialist sale, TAJAN publishes a catalogue containing full descriptions and illustrations of the works offered along with details of pre-sale viewing dates, times and venues. Catalogues are available On Line, by Subscription and may also be Downloaded in PDF format. A detailed listing of our Auction Schedule is also published online. BIDDING

You can bid by :
•By Registering* on our web site
• in person: you will need to register and collect a numbered paddle before the beginning of each auction.  We encourage new clients to register at least 48 hours in advance. First-time bidders will be asked for a valid identification (a driver’s license, a national identity card or a passport), permanent address, telephone number and signature. You may also be asked to provide bank references.
• By sending an absentee bid form (published at the back of our hard copy or PDF catalogue) to a TAJAN staff member who will be responsible for making bids on your behalf up to the limit you have set. The form must be sent to TAJAN no later than two business days before the sale, together with a bank account identification slip (“RIB”) and a copy of the bidder’s proof of identity. For significant purchases, a buyer may be asked to provide a bank letter of credit. If several absentee bid forms are submitted for the same item, the first order received will take priority.
• By telephone. Telephone bidding can only be arranged for lots with low-end estimates of €400 and above. As there are only a limited number of telephone lines, the necessary arrangements must be made at least two business days before the auction.

*Any new bidder not already recorded in our files will be requested to produce his/her personal and bank details and, if necessary, a bank letter of credit.

BUYER’S PREMIUM
In addition to the “hammer price”, the buyer must pay TAJAN a buyer’s premium of 23 % excl. tax on the first €20,000, 20 % excl. tax from €20,001 and up to €600,000, 12 % excl. tax for the portion above €600,001. In addition, VAT shall be charged at the rate of 19.6% (5.5% for books).

Items originating from a country outside the European Union shall be marked with the symbol ƒ and ƒƒ.
ƒ : In addition to the regular buyer’s premium,  a commission  of 5.5 % HT (i.e., 5.802% incl. of VAT for books, 6.578% incl.  VAT for the other lots) will be charged to the buyer.
ƒƒ : In addition to the regular buyer’s premium, a commission of 19.6% (i.e. 23.44% incl. VAT) will be charged to the buyer.
These additional costs may, in certain cases, be reimbursed to the buyer.

Terms of Sale and Bidding


PAYMENT

Payment must be made immediately after the sale. If the successful bidder did not register before the sale, he/she must provide proof of identity and bank references. Payments may be made by one of the following methods:
• Bank transfer in euros,
• Visa or MasterCard (subject to the presentation of a valid proof of identity),
• Cash (up to €3,000 inclusive of costs and taxes per sale for individual buyers; up to €750 inclusive of costs and taxes per sale for trade buyers).
•Certified banker’s draft in euros subject to the presentation of valid proof of identity.


Checks drawn on a foreign bank will not be accepted.


COLLECTION OF PURCHASES
The buyer may not collect any lot until he/she has paid all amounts due (hammer price and the related commission and costs). In the event of a payment by cheque or bank transfer, delivery of the goods may be deferred until such time as the payment has cleared.
To ensure that purchases can be collected as quickly as possible after payment, we advise buyers to give us precise shipping instructions or details of when they will collect their purchases from TAJAN. TAJAN staff is available to help you organize your choice of delivery method, domestic or international shipping and to assist you with any customs formalities that may be required. Please note that all handling, delivery and shipping costs must be met by the buyer.

STORAGE
Sold furniture and bulky items that are not claimed after the sale, will be stored at the buyer’s risk and expense on the guarded premises of Transports MONIN (26, avenue Henri Barbusse - 93000 Bobigny).

You may collect your purchases Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm, two business days after the sale, upon presentation of your released Purchase Auction Invoice.

Transport insurance and storage are provided by TAJAN during 14 days.
Beyond this two-week period, starting on the 15th  calendar day, insurance, storage fees and a standard fee will be billed directly to you by Transports MONIN, in accordance with the guidelines below :
By lot and by calendar day:
Storage fee: €3.80 excl. VAT (€1.80 excl. VAT for small items)*
By lot:
Fixed transport and handling fees: €65 excl. VAT (€35 excl. VAT)**
* + insurance premium of 0,6% of the value
** limited to 195 € excl. VAT
Transports MONIN may assist buyers with quotation for handling, packing and shipping in France and abroad.
A quotation can be sent upon request. Storage fees will cease on the day the estimate is accepted.
