Furniture & works of art
Sale on July 3, 2024
The Furniture & Works of Art department is pleased to unveil highlights from its upcoming sale on July 3. In particular, a secretary attributed to BVRB (Bernard II Van Risen Burgh) from the Louis XV period in Chinese lacquer and Martin varnish is an invitation to travel. Renowned for his lacquer furniture – which he meticulously cut from Chinese and Japanese chests and screens, then applied to his creations without superfluous ornamentation – his creations are highly sought-after today. Other highlights of the sale included two plaster heads by Auguste Bartholdi, one representing America and the other Africa. These were two preparatory sculptures for the monument commissioned from the artist on the death of Admiral Armand-Joseph Bruat, and erected in Colmar.
