Alexia Taiclet, Head of the Books, Manuscripts & Prints Departments, is delighted to present a selection of highlights from the upcoming Books, Manuscripts & Prints sale, that will be held on June 24 at Tajan.
Among the key lots is a superb collection of natural history works assembled by a passionate collector, featuring rare original Dutch editions such as the Botanical Encyclopedia (1696), Natural History of Insects (1765–1782), Flora of Asia (1678–1679), the first treatise on woods (1773) and on citrus fruits (1646), as well as a rare color lithographed edition of Views of the Island of Java by Frans Buffa & Sons (1865–1872).
Also included is an important and rare family atlas by Danckerts, circa 1700, enriched with 86 colored maps and plates, estimated at €20,000 to €30,000, and an original edition of Buffon’s Natural History of Birds in 10 volumes, illustrated with hand-colored plates, valued between €20,000 and €25,000.
The sale will also feature two outstanding examples of modern printmaking: an etching signed by Pierre Soulages, marked “Artist’s Proof” (€15,000–20,000), and a rare complete portfolio by František Kupka, Four Stories in Black and White (1926), comprising 25 loose plates, with an engraved cover and title page (€10,000–15,000).
