Nicholas Garrat Collection
On sale on June 3, 2025
Lovers of decorative arts and fine materials will be delighted to discover a rare and refined collection of pewter vases and objects, offered at our annual sale dedicated to 20th century tableware. Comprising about thirty lots, this collection highlights the richness and diversity of pewter in the early 20th century.
The highlights of the sale include vases dating from the 1900s, distinguished by their close ties to the Art Nouveau movement, which was largely inspired by nature, especially flora and fauna. Pewter vases from this period feature sculpted relief decorations of young women, flowers or branches, with sensual, organic shapes, sometimes accentuated by scrolled handles or floral necks. Art Deco creations, meanwhile, are distinguished by their clean lines and modernity.
Some pieces bear the signature of great master silversmiths, while others, anonymous, illustrate all the creativity of their time. Most pieces have been carefully polished to a silvery sheen that enhances the nobility of pewter and recalls the brilliance of antique silver. This finish enhances the chiselled motifs, bold shapes and unique patina of each piece. This collection will appeal to both discerning collectors and interior design enthusiasts looking for sophisticated objects steeped in history.
