ODETTE DUMARET AUCTION RESULTS

Studio sale: Odette Dumaret (1865-1938)
Last heiress of Suzanne Valadon

Our Studio Sale of Odette Dumaret, last heiress of Valadon – held on April 23, achieved excellent results, with over 95% of lots sold. A strong response from the market for an artist who remains little-known, yet whose sincere and intimate work deserves to be rediscovered.

This renewed interest in her work offers an opportunity to revisit the formative relationship she shared with Suzanne Valadon. In a dedication to her student, Valadon reveals the depth of their bond and the esteem she held for her final protégée. And yet, Odette Dumaret managed to break free from this influence and assert her own artistic voice. Her work is distinguished by bold, vivid colors, expressed through broad, solid, and dynamic forms. It creates a vibrant visual world of strong contrasts and warm lyricism, echoing affinities with 20th-century avant-garde movements—particularly Cézanne, the Nabis, and Cubism.

One of the highlights of the sale was the portfolio of drawings gifted by Suzanne Valadon to her young pupil, which sold for €11,414.40*. Among Dumaret’s own works, collectors were especially drawn to the emotional intensity of several pieces, such as La Robe de chambre(€3,673.60*), Autoportrait (€1,640*), and Figures (€2,624*).

This auction marks a new milestone in the growing public recognition of Odette Dumaret—an important step in a story that is still unfolding.
