Attribué à CARTIER - ANNÉES 1915
RARE STATUETTE LAPIN QUARTZ ROSE

A rare pink quartz, sapphire and rose-cut diamond rabbit figurine attributed to Cartier, circa 1915.
Dimensions : 9,5 x 10,2 x 8,5 cm. (a glued paw).

More than a thousand of these animal figurines, in various gems, were sold by Cartier between 1904 and 1930. This success can be seen as the evidence of the popularity of these exceptionnal items amongst a wealthy clientele.
Other than simply ornemental, some of them were also symbolic, for instance in the chinese horoscope the rabbit, as a water sign, represents peace. We can note the rarity of its height as most of the animal figurines were smaller, with the exception of a pink quartz goose with bridle as high as 9cm or a pair of rabbits 10,1cm tall.
Cartier showed a certain realism, portraying the animals moving like they were caught in the moment. We can also notice the quality of the engraving and the stones which were key elements to their creation.
The use of quartz was very common at Cartier, although considered as a material quite hard to work with by Fabergé who showed a preference for agate.
