Several allusions to Fernand Léger's or Paul Klee's works can be found in certain paintings of Gaston Chaissac, inspired himself by Pablo Picasso's formal language.
However, from 1948, Gaston Chaissac wandered from any cultural or artistic referent and resembled Jean Dubuffet, with whom he shared his 'art brut' perception. Since then, his work consisted in painting without any cultural or artistic referent. As an aesthete of the 'found object', he uses all the prolix and creative supports he had to hands, in the use of materials and techniques. He created prints, childlike graffitis. The works that are presented in the catalogue were created between 1960 and 1962. Gaston Chaissac gives free rein to deliberately abstract, colorful and rhythmical forms.
He introduces us into a childlike world, in which sometimes appear diverted faces dancing among abstract patterns, revealing a free and wild style.
