FRANCISQUE NOAILLY (1855-1942) LA HALTE DEVANT LE FONDOUK The stop in front of the Fondouk Huile sur toile, signée, située "Alger" et datée 1892 en bas à droite. DIM. 186 X 221 CM (73.2 X 87 in.)

    Notes:
Our important painting is dated to 1892 and represents the entrance of a fondouk, a place common in North Africa where caravans halt to relax and sell their various merchandises. Noailly shows here a traditional scene witnessed in the daily lives of Algerians, one which he felt deserved a detailed illustration.
