The authenticity of this lot has been confirmed by M. Kastelyn. Maurice Gaston-Elie Joseph Prost (1894-1967) was a student of Léopold Morice and Charles Valton, who would have a strong influence of his carreer as a naturalist sculptor. Starting in 1922 he exhibited at different Salons and received numerous accolades?: a medal of honor in 1922, bronze in 1929, silver in 1936, gold in 1963, another medal of honor in 1966 and the Legion of Honor in 1957. His works were reproduced and sold widely with great success. In 1931 he presented his life-size black panther in bronze at the Colonial Exposition. The sculpture was purchased by the Conseil d’État. The model "Walking Black Panther" was exhibited for the first time in 1928 at the Salon des Artistes Independants.

Maurice Gaston-Elie Joseph Prost (1894-1967) suit les cours des sculpteurs Léopold Morice et Charles Valton, qui influencera sa carrière de sculpteur animalier. À partir de 1922, il expose dans divers Salons et reçoit de nombreuses distinctions: médaille d’honneur en 1922, de bronze en 1929, d’argent en 1936, d’or en 1963 et d’honneur en 1966 ainsi que la légion d’honneur en 1957. Ses œuvres sont reproduites et vendues avec un grand succès. En 1931, il présente sa panthère noire en bronze en grandeur nature à l’exposition coloniale. Elle est acquise par le Conseil d’État. Le modèle de "la panthère noire en marche" est exposé pour la première fois en 1928 au Salon des artistes indépendants.
