ƒ Paul-César Helleu (1859-1927) LA MAISON DE FLAUBERT À CROISSET Huile sur toile Signée en bas à gauche Titrée en bas à droite Oil on canvas Signed lower left Titled lower right 56 x 94 cm - 22 7/16 x 37 IN.

    Notes:
Helleu admired Flaubert's works who was also part of his circle of intellectuals, especially through the Goncourt brothers. Before summer time, Helleu would go to Rouen so to prepare his boat for navigation at sea, traces of these trips are found in a letter Proust addressed to Mrs. Strauss in 1908, in which Proust shows despair for not being able and accompany Helleu and Monet during that trip to Rouen. The view of "Maison de Flaubert à Croisset” was probably painted either from his boat or at the annex by the Seine River.
