    Notes:
This pair of armchairs was made around 1940 in Czechoslovakian furniture factory Spojene UP Závody. The chair's designer, Jindrich Halabala, was chief designer of the company at the time. This Halabala design is in line with bentwood furniture works made during the Thonet-Era, which built upon the Bauhaus concept. The legs and armrests are formed from stained beech wood, bent into a U-shape. The frills of typical coffee house chairs are left out of this design: here, the emphasis is on simplicity. Inbetween the frame, cushions appear to levitate in thin air, transforming the simple armchairs into comfortable lounge chairs. This model, Kreslo H269, is one of five similarly shaped chair series Halabala designed at UP from 1931 onwards.
