  • Élève de Pierre-Jules Cavelier (1814-1894) à l'Ecole des Beaux-arts de Paris, Felix Coutan est Prix de Rome en 1872 pour son "Ajax bravant les Dieux et foudroyé". ll dirige la manufacture de Sèvres de1891 à1894 et est nommé professeur puis Président de l'Académie des Beaux-arts en 1900. Son œuvre célèbre, "Les Chasseurs d'Aigles" (1900), haut relief en plâtre, est exposé au Musée d'Orsay.
