  • Provenance: Resté dans la descendance de l'artiste jusqu'à ce jour Jacques-Émile Blanche a représenté le Derby d'Epsom, depuis les tribunes, au milieu d'une foule bigarrée (collection particulière, 1913). Plus tard, il reprend ce thème en centrant sur les seuls cavaliers en action, cherchant à rendre la vitesse. Sa touche devient plus spontanée. On comparera notre panneau avec le Faux départ: Courses d'Auteuil, daté 1935 (vente anonyme, Londres, Sporting Art, 5décembre 2001 (Christie’s), lot 85.
