Three generations of illustrious women

The sale of an exceptional family ring from the BOIVIN House at Tajan is an opportunity to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of the book ‘René BOIVIN Joaillier’, written and signed by Françoise CAILLES. This blue enamelled cushion diamond ring from 1915 comes directly from the collection of Nicole GROULT, sister of Jeanne BOIVIN, born POIRET. The POIRET children each distinguished themselves with great brio in this rich period of the early 20th century, from Art Nouveau to Art Deco.

Jeanne BOIVIN married René Boivin and took over the management of Maison BOIVIN after her husband’s death, leading it to an elitist and refined reputation. Paul POIRET was a prolific precursor of the Art Deco period, a great couturier and perfumer. Germaine BONGARD set up a gallery of modern painters such as Picasso, Derain, Dufy, Modigliani and Matisse on the premises of her own fashion house. Nicole GROULT married the reno interior designer André GROULT, and under his wife’s name was also a well-known and much-admired fashion designer. The current owner of this Nicole Groult ring is one of her granddaughters, daughter of Benoite Groult, writer and leading figure of 20th century feminism. For Tajan, Blandine DE CAUNES will be recounting the intellectual atmosphere surrounding this jewel with its iconic name, in a very Parisian spirit.

Extract from a letter from Benoîte Groult to her daughter Lison in 2011:

‘I’m currently putting Nicole’s Coco-Bel-Oeil ring back on every day. I really enjoy looking at it and seeing Nicole again through her large diamond worn by Blandine’.
