Auction on 5 December 2023 in Paris
“130 pieces from a private collection that are the fruit of meticulous research, travel, comparison and reason on the art market over the last 40 years. It is a privilege to lift the veil of secrecy on this particular ensemble. It is all about an intellectual vision of the history of jewellery and the different techniques that surround it.
The English word Revival lends harmony to this collection. In fact, this collection combines neo-antique jewellery, championed by Castellani and Giuliano, with neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance jewellery, brought to the pinnacle by Jules and his son Louis Wiese.
The collectors who entrusted us with these pieces had made certain books and collections their absolute reference. We should mention “La bijouterie française au XIXème siècle” by Henri Vever, as well as the Hull Grundy collection, whose two volumes were also their bedside books, both literally and figuratively.
To exalt the Art Deco period, they carefully selected around thirty vanity cases, giving them the role of representing the most emblematic style of the 20th century. Here, too, the big names are on show, including eleven pieces by Cartier, followed by Van Cleef & Arpels, Lacloche, Boucheron, Black Star & Frost, Ostertag and Chaumet.
Two catalogues will be published by TAJAN to keep a written record of this important dispersal. »
