A rising auction on the evening of 21 June 2023, during our summer sale of Old Master Paintings and Drawings!
The auction kicked off with a fine selection of drawings, including L’enlèvement d’Europe by Laurent de la Hyre, which fetched €59,040*, and L’étude des chiens attributed to Jan Brueghel L’Ancien, which sold for €17,056*. This was followed by an exceptional collection of 37 miniatures, including a portrait of Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin which fetched €30,176* and a second, presumed to be of Princess Daria Saltykova, by the late 18th-century Russian school, which sold for €11,305*. A rare pair of horses by Jean-Baptiste Duru fetched €41,984*, while the grand masters marked the third chapter of this sale with some fine bidding battles: the Virgin and Child from the entourage of Simon Vouet fetched €104,960* and the highly-anticipated Saint-Jacques from the workshop of Georges de La Tour fetched €511,680*.
