A Selection of Artworks from the Auctions
TRANSMISSION(S) – Jean-Pierre and Martine Nuaud Collection
• Part I: October 10 at Tajan in Paris
• Part II: October 4 to 13 at www.tajan.com
This October, Tajan will be auctioning part of Jean-Pierre and Martine Nuaud’s collection, two art-lovers from Nantes with eclectic and enlightened tastes.
Organised in two parts, the sale bears witness to Jean-Pierre Nuaud’s close ties with many curators, art critics and artists, including Philippe Cognée, François Morellet, Jacques Villeglé, Claude Viallat, Michel Seuphor, Robert Combas, Noël Fillaudeau, Stani Nitkowski and Jean-Joseph Sanfourche, and to his admiration for others he unfortunately never met, notably Gaston Chaissac and Jean Dubuffet.
“Initially trained as a senior technician in industry, I became a special educator for young offenders, then head of a workshop to train teenagers with disabilities, then director of an association that took in young women in great distress and social difficulty. Those, in a nutshell, are the jobs I’ve done, always different, exhilarating, difficult, time-consuming and requiring great responsibility”.
In these words Jean-Pierre Nuaud described himself in the introductory text to the Ce qui était murmure exhibition presented in Vézelay by the Fondation Yvonne et Christian Zervos association in 2017, which brought together nearly a hundred artworks from the collection.
Although he never made it his profession, Jean-Pierre Nuaud loved art and artists. His collection was essentially built up through encounters with artists he approached as part of his social work for associations such as Tréméac and Educ’Arts. It reveals the friendships he forged with them, as well as his insatiable curiosity, which led him into a wide variety of creative fields.
After a partial exhibition in June 2023 in the studio of Ariane Blanche, our regional correspondent in Nantes, this collection will be auctioned in Paris in October.
In June 2021, Jean-Pierre Nuaud made initial contact with Tajan to express his wish to auction his collection. His wife Martine and children François, Claire and Matthieu subsequently discovered their husband’s and father’s initiative, and wished to pursue it, not only by donating certain pieces to museums, but also by passing on this eclectic collection to the public through Tajan.
“What I like about him [J-P. Nuaud] is his passion for art and artists and the accuracy of his vision”.
