20th CENTURY DECORATIVE ARTS & DESIGN
June 28, 2023
PARIS – Our prestigious 20th Century Decorative Arts & Design auction took place on Wednesday, June 28, bringing together exceptional sculptures and furniture assembled with passion by Marie-Cécile Michel, head of the department.
Among the top bids was a rare ensemble from a private European collection, comprising three sculptures by Brazilian Art Deco artist Victor Brecheret. This collection created a splendid buzz, resulting in a world record for each of the three pieces. These included a monumental Virgin and Child that reached €977,250*, almost 50 times its estimate, and a Diana the Huntress that totalled €800,430*.
A rare “PF213” vase by designer Pierre Chareau fetched €330,624*. Iconic designers Charlotte Perriand’s “Feuille” table sold for €154,816*, while Jean Prouvé’s “GB 21” pedestal table auctioned off for €89,216*.
Last but not least, the “Scolopendres” tapestry by Dom Robert (Guy de Chaunac-Lanzac dit) was a great success, selling for €34,398*.
