Creative Growth Art Center

Founded in 1974 by artist Florence Ludins-Katz and her husband, psychologist Elias Katz, Creative Growth has been a pioneer in the field of art and disability, establishing a model for creative communities. The Creative Growth Studio supports more than 140 artists working across a wide range of media. Led by professional artists, the Studio provides artistic guidance, high-quality materials, and dedicated spaces for painting, drawing, ceramics, woodworking, textile arts, printmaking, and digital media. The Creative Growth Studio in Oakland is an open creative space housed in a former 1,115-square-meter automobile garage.

The Creative Growth Gallery exhibits and promotes artists by placing their works in collections and institutions worldwide. It organizes public exhibitions at its Oakland gallery and represents artists annually at national and international art fairs. As a nonprofit gallery, all art sales directly support the artists and Creative Growth, which uses the proceeds to purchase materials and sustain its programs. Their artists’ works have been acquired by renowned collections around the world, including MoMA, SFMOMA, the Centre Pompidou, the Smithsonian, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Collection de L’Art Brut, the Treger Saint Silvestre Collection, ICA Miami, and the American Folk Art Museum.
