This late work, exhibited at the Centre Georges Pompidou during the artist’s retrospective from September 22, 2010 to January 10, 2011, pays tribute to Jackson Pollock. It marks a return to painting, which the artist had set aside in the 1960s, but in a distinctive form: composed of crushed tubes of paint, it transforms painting into an object. The work thus engages with the corporeal dimension central to Pollock’s practice, in which the body is embedded in the very act of painting, offering a nod to his gestural and physical approach to the medium.
