Estate of Mr. D.
Modern & Contemporary Art Collection
With 99% of the lots sold, the auction featuring nearly 300 works of Modern and Contemporary Art along with other collectibles achieved a total of €780,000 including fees—five times the low estimate. This collection brought together a remarkable ensemble of graphic works and ceramics by major 20th-century artists, including numerous ceramic pieces by Pablo Picasso created at the Madoura workshop. Among them, a ceramic tile painting depicting a diabolo player—an original 1961 work by Picasso—stood out, fetching €62,200*.
In the field of works on paper, Étude de femme pour Soleil d’automne by the Czech artist František Kupka achieved €49,650*, while an acrylic on paper by Sam Francis, a leading figure of postwar American abstraction, soared to €47,700*. Prints also attracted strong interest, notably L’Aubade avec joueur d’harmonica, which sold for €9,000*. Among the other objects from the collection, a Cartier TANK “large model” watch was auctioned for €16,100*. These results highlight both the quality of the works and collections presented and the expertise of our teams in their valuation and sale. They confirm Tajan’s ability to engage international buyers and generate competitive momentum in the service of its consignors.
